Alone, she bumps up next to trees and dried stalks to make sure she is alive. Unobserved -- a state she craves --  Effie loses the eyes around her that watch and watch and watch. At first she feels free, but soon she's grabbing at branches and licking bark to make sure she hasn't disappeared.
