What Rorik does is grab the presents and pile them up as a shield. He's the same with hot chocolate. He adds everything -- whipped cream, candy cane shards, marshmallows and maple syrup. The presents are not metaphorical at all. They are an actual wall against the anxiety bolts that fly around on December 18th. Using the reflective paper is also not an accident. He's camouflaged. Try it. Go stand in front of Rorik, and his wall, and think of how it feels to have the pressure to buy something to show your love. Think and remember that it is a symbol of the affection level you hold the receiver at. And it is always open to interpretation. Think those thoughts and watch Rorik stand guard over his calm wholeness. He might even take a sip of his hot chocolate. You'll find that all that fear is going come back at you like a sonic boom. "What a pity for you," he'll say. And that sonovabitch will actually mean it.
